Find Your Role in Band Aides West

 2016 Jazz on Bridge

A role where we need help is the person who'll chair this year's Jazz on the Bridge.

Band-Aides has just a couple of roles open now if you'd be willing to help, and a few more coming up for the 2018-2019 year.

Open Jobs Now

Dine-to-Donate Chair -- You reach out to restaurants to arrange dates upon which some of the day's income goes to our program.

Jazz on the Bridge -- This is our annual dinner and multi-school jazz program featuring a special guest artist. You'd coordinate the ticket sales and the barbecue dinner (purchased at a local restaurant).

2018-2019 Initial Roles to Fill

Officers: Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary

Chair for Band Camp snacks

Chair for Band Camp ice cream social

Chair for Uniforms

Chair for Spaghetti Dinnner & Auction

Publicity, Website, Social Media team

... And more. Be thinking of where you can use your talents on behalf of our students. Let Jennifer Silverstein know your area of interest. As Mr. Thomas is fond of saying, "We couldn't do it without you!"

Can You Help With Alterations?

If you can help with minor alterations to tuxedo jackets for our concert band uniforms, Gwyn Valverde needs to hear from you. Please notify her right away to help ensure just a few jackets are ready to go for the upcoming concert Dec. 12. This email address is being protected from spambots. Great Conclusion to Fall Marching Season!

So proud of our band and color guard. They have come a long way since first stepping onto the practice field in July to start learning to march and play to a new routine, and it shows! The hard work culminated in two October contests. At the Central States Marching Festival in Manhattan among 39 organizations, SM West took home a Superior "1" rating. And at the Kansas Bandmasters Association Championships in Topeka, the West Pride placed 10th overall among more than 20 groups.

Next up: England! The band and color guard will represent SM West, the Kansas City metro area and the Midwest as one of the few U.S. groups appearing in the London New Year's Day Parade. The 2018 event will be seen by a half-million people watching in person, and a television audience of more than 300 million. This is the Shawnee Mission West band's eighth appearance in the LNYDP, and our group has the distinction of being the only band to participate eight times -- more than any other overseas participant! West's Overland Express jazz ensemble is set to perform as well, at a reception occurring in conjunction with the parade.
