Greetings everyone. Welcome to February (in another few hours). Let’s take a look at the days ahead. We are so proud of our Pep Bands. They have been playing great and representing West with pride and passion. Thank you to everyone who is participating! You all ROCK!
Senior Pep Band – Did you complete your Sr. Night Questionnaire?
Solos and Ensembles for contest – Ensembles are now forming. Talk to your friends and then to Mr. Hupe and Dr. Thomas about getting music so you can prepare for contest that takes place in April. NOW is the time. I will put out a signup sheet in the coming weeks so I can get you entered. We’d LOVE to have half of our students involved again with this great event. This is a great way to improve your musical abilities and spend time with friends! If you need an accompanist for your solo, just ask, we have names we can pass on to you.
Coming Up This Week
Monday – percussion rehearsal for any and all percussionists from 6:00-8:00p. This group is working on the upcoming Percussion concert which has gotten moved to April due to a scheduling conflict. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 27. This is great to build chops, reading ability, and overall performance ability. All of this makes each and every person involved a better player and helps toward improving your placement between our bands, getting the spots you desire in the marching band, and possibly getting into honor bands and college scholarships. Please consider joining Kyle and the gang from 6-8p!
Tuesday – Pep Band 5:30call time, and BAW meeting 7:00p.m.The Pep Band for Tuesday night is the Black band. Make sure to wear your band t-shirt. See you there.
BAW meeting Also on Tuesday at 7:00 PM, we will be talking about our upcoming fundraisers, candy bar sales, and blankets. The next events we have are Jazz on the Bridge, Percussion concert and Band Banquet. We need to also begin thinking about trip possibilities for next year. No real pressure, but it is nice to be organized and looking into the future. Please consider joining us. We NEED our parents to be counted on in the little things now, so we can prepare for the big things in the future – like trips.
Saturday – Chili Supper Concert 5:30 start time. There won’t be a dinner served but it is slated to still be a bit chilly for the evening. We have decided to move the concert to the auditorium. We will still start the concert at 5:30 since that was the slated time all along. The order will be typical for an auditorium concert. We will start with Jazz Lab, followed by the Overland Express Jazz Ensemble. Following that will be the percussion ensemble, Symphonic Band, a special guest performance, and then the Wind Ensemble will close the concert. The concert should finish at around 7:15ish. Please remember, we have relaxed our concert attire a little this year to not make the gentlemen wear tuxedos, and the ladies long black formal dresses. However, everyone MUST be in ALL black dress attire. Dark blue is not black. A black sports coat over a white dress shirt is not black. If a student has an issue, they need to talk to Mr. Hupe or Dr. Thomas tomorrow (Monday) so we can help find a resolution. This is the same requirement from our December concert and will be for the rest of the year so it should be no surprise. Any issues have probably been addressed, but I wanted to be clear.
