First of all, congratulations to the jazz students and parents for a successful and wonderful trip to New Orleans this past weekend. I am hearing lots of great stories. I’m so glad that we can provide this opportunity to you to broaden your horizons of jazz history and culture!

Next Thursday is the State Large Group Music Festival at Olathe East (for the bands). Here is our schedule for this day.
- 9:15a – Load busses
- 9:30 – Depart West
- 10:00 – Arrive O. East/Unload
- 10:20 – Sym. Band warm-up (Wind Ens. Listen to SM East)
- 10:45 – Sym. Band performs
- 11:10 – Wind Ens. Warm up
- 11:35 – Wind Ens. Performs
- 12:00p – Load busses/depart. (students that need to go to choir site depart)
- 12:45 – Arrive back at West/unload/go to class
Friday, April 19 – Jazz on the Bridge. We will set up right after school. If you need lettering points, please plan to hang after school is out for about an hour to an hour and a half. The first band (Jazz Lab) plays at 5:45 in the cafeteria. The bridge kicks of at 6:00p. OE plays around 8:30 on the Bridge. Then we are finished around 9:00p. The Rub BBQ will be onsite if you wish to purchase dinner from their food truck.
The next weekend (Saturday, April 27) is State Solo and Ensemble Festival (in Topeka) for anyone who receives a I (Superior Rating) at regionals. More to come on that later.
Monday, April 29 at 6:00p will be a drumline minicamp for ALL of next year’s marching percussion members as we sort out everyone’s skills to see how we can best use everyone to create the best overall percussion section.
Reminder – Seniors and Senior Parents – Have you shared your student’s senior picture and baby picture with either Jean Barnes or Dr. Thomas? We are about to begin working on the Year End video.
Next BAW meeting will be a kick-off for next year! Please mark your calendar for Tuesday, April 30 in the band room at 7:00p. We will be inviting our upcoming freshmen parents so we can begin planning next year – including fundraising towards our next BIG trip! Please come welcome our incoming freshmen! We’ll also talk about the final concert, senior scholarships, and the band banquet. Refreshments will be provided.
