Summer is winding down, and the Shawnee Mission West Pride Marching Band Camp is coming up! All marching band students, color guard, and dance team will have Band Camp at the end of the month!
Hello everyone! Band camp is just around the corner. We are so excited to see you all again. Here are the details I think everyone has been waiting for. Linked below are schedules for the band camps; your musical parts were sent to you by email.
July 24-26 – Percussion Camp – 8a-4p in the band room. This is for all marching band percussionists. You may bring lunch and eat in the cafeteria, or you may go out with your new friends.
July 27 – Student Staff Training Day for all Section Leaders and Drum Majors – 8a-4p. We will be playing and marching. Make sure you have your instruments and are prepared to go outside. We’ll start in the band room.
July 28 – Rookie Day -This is for any student who has not marched with the West Pride Marching Band before. All freshmen and sophomores and anyone else who has not participated in the West Marching Band. We will start the day in the West Band Room. You will need your instrument, reeds, oil etc. A pizza lunch will be provided for everyone on this day.
July 31, Aug. 1-4 – FULL Band Camp 8a-4p. You may bring your lunch to eat in the cafeteria or go out with your new friends. We’ll meet in the band room. EVERYONE needs to bring their own water bottles, SUNSCREEN, wear tennis shoes and socks (no flipflops), hats are also a good thing. I personally LOVE Dr. Pepper, but caffeine is not good for you when it is hot. Please make sure you begin drinking water a few days prior to camp. Additionally, you MUST eat something for breakfast each day. You will be working hard and for those of us sitting under an air conditioner all summer, the heat can really take a toll. These tips can save you from suffering negative effects of the heat. We will be outside in the mornings until 11:30 and inside in the afternoons, but it can still be quite taxing by 11:30a.m.
