The Band-Aides booster club for the Shawnee Mission West Band is sponsoring a Spiritwear design contest. The winner gets their design on the next round of Spiritwear! Deadline: Turn in to Dr. Thomas, Mr. Hupe, or email to dawnschnake@gmail.com by 3:00 pm on Monday, March 2nd. That is two weeks away! Format: jpg, pdf, or drawn by hand. Large enough to put on a shirt. Guidelines: Identify the school. West or Shawnee Mission WestUse 3 colors or fewer and include school colors. Background color of the shirt can be white, black, grey, or gold.No dates. Section Battle Winners!

Tonight at the Chili Supper and Concert the BAW had a SECTION BATTLE!  The purpose was to raise money to purchase a trailer for the band to haul equipment on the field for marching festivals and performances.  Donation tubs were on the table in the gym.  Bills counted towards the total, and coins added to the tubs subtracted from the total for each section.  The winning section will receive a donut party during sectional practice. Our West Area Band director and SMSD Music Coordinator, has successfully defended his Doctoral Dissertation and is now Doctor Bill Thomas! To recognize his accomplishments, Shawnee Mission West will be hosting a brief reception before school on Wednesday, November 20th at 7:00 AM in the band room. 2019 KBA Marching Festival Schedule – SM West

From Mr. Thomas: Saturday:  KBA Marching Festival - STRANGE schedule.  Not my desire, but due to a packed performance schedule (28 bands), we must leave the campus at noon (fire marshal’s declaration), then if we are in finals, we will drive back.  Please eat breakfast prior to arrival in the morning.  You can eat lunch when we arrive back in KC.  Similarly, if we make it into finals, please eat before arrival back at West to return.  6:15a - Call time – come in T-shirt, shorts, socks, marching shoes etc.   Change into uniform, upon arrival at school. 6:45     Bus departs West 8:00     Bus arrives at Topeka Washburn University             Warm-up 9:30     Preliminary performance 9:50     Change into street clothes to watch other bands…

2019 Homecoming Parade

The SM West homecoming parade will begin at approximately 1:30 pm in the circle drive of Shawnee Mission West High School.  The parade proceeds down 85th Street to Santa Fe Drive and concludes at Overland Park Elementary School.  Parents and guests are invited to attend or watch along the parade route.
