State Large Group music festival.
Coming up this Thursday is the State Large Group music festival. In music, there is no singular champion, but rather a standard of achievement by soloists and groups. Many individuals and groups can meet the ultimate standard of “Superior.” The standard of a Superior rating is stated as “An outstanding performance, with few technical errors and exemplifying a truly musical expression. This rating should be reserved for the truly outstanding performance.” As we try in our concert bands to live up to that standard, here is our schedule for Thursday.
10:45 – Out of class (lunch?)
11:00 – Loading bus
11:30 – Depart West
11:50 – Arrive at Olathe East
12:10 – Wind Ensemble Warm-up
12:20 – Wind Ensemble Perform
1:00 – Symphonic Band Warm-up
1:20 – Symphonic Band Perform
1:45 – Load and return to West
2:05 – Arrive at SM West
Make sure you have your “Concert Black” performance attire, including black shoes and BLACK socks gentlemen. You have to take your own instruments and music just like our band festivals in the last couple of weeks.
Music Honor Society
Tri-M Music Honor Society – I would LOVE for our Junior and Senior band students to become more involved in the National Honor Society for music – Tri-M. Mr. Cross is the sponsor for the group, but it is for any band, choir, or orchestra student. It really doesn’t take much time and really rewards you for what you are already doing in music. Performing, spreading good tidings about our groups, advocating for music and band with younger students and the broader community. You might be asked to hand out programs at a concert, or maybe perform somewhere in a small group, but nothing too far out of your comfort zone. This also looks really good on a resume for college! Check out this form. https://forms.gle/5qLrB41Hr1GRS1RE7
You must sign up THIS WEEK. Do it NOW!
Worlds of Fun Performance and day of fun
We had everyone fill out a form a few weeks ago to gather the amount of interest there was to attend and perform in the Worlds of Fun Music Festival on Saturday, May 7. We are ready to make it official! Most likely tomorrow, I will email out a form for everyone to officially sign up for the event. There will be three different options for students and two for parents.
Students can sign up for:
- Performance and attend Worlds of Fun
- Sign up to perform and go to Worlds of fun with their own Season pass
- Perform (help out your band friends) and return home without going to Worlds of Fun.
Parents can sign up for:
- Attend the performance and Worlds of Fun as a chaperone.
- Attend the performance and then return home without going to Worlds of Fun.
We really do need ALL band students to join us for the performance so that we sound our best. We will play our contest music, so it is something you are already good at. The performances are at about noon.
Candy Bar Fund Raiser.
On the horizon is a candy bar fund raiser. After our final concert, we will make available candy bars just like the West Dance Team sold a few weeks ago. $1 each! You can’t buy a candy bar at Quick Trip for that price nowadays! Each box has 60 candy bars in it. In talking to the Dance Team students – they sold like hotcakes! We have about 200 cases! That could be over $8,000 in profit to help us get the marching band up and running. What kind of show could we put on for $8,000? Let’s find out! Let’s do this!!!!!
This is a big week. Let’s keep pushing for excellence together!
