We have another busy week ahead of us, but we are almost finished for the year. You’ve got this!
Again – Great job yesterday to all of our soloists and ensembles that performed at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival in Topeka.
The percussion concert was incredible last Wednesday! This was the finest percussion concert we’ve had in six or seven years. It was evident that the students really worked hard to prepare and take themselves and their talents to new heights! BRAVO!
Monday – Last BAW meeting for the year. Discussion items are Tuesday’s concert, candy bar sales (more info. below), band banquet, new officers, Worlds of Fun trip, and possibly some preliminary marching band season information. The meeting will be at 7:00p.m. in the band room.
Tuesday – Spring Band Concert. Start time is 7:00p.m. Call time for the students is 6:30 to warm- up and tune in the band and orchestra rooms. The order of performance will be Jazz Lab, OE, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. The concert will last about an hour and a half. For this concert students are encouraged to wear bright “springy” dress clothes. Jeans, tennis shoes, and T-shirts are not acceptable.
Friday – North Pizza Jazz. Jazz Lab performs at 6:55 and OE at 8:50 in the SM North Cafeteria. Mr. Hupe will send details about arrival times later this week to those students and parents involved.
Saturday – Worlds of Fun Trip. This is a competition in the morning so we will wear all black as we have for our other concerts. After the concert, students continuing on to Worlds of fun should have a change of clothes appropriate for fun in the park. Backpacks, or other bags may be left on the busses while we are performing or in the park. All instruments will go on the bus with us. We are not taking a truck. This will be just like State Large Group festival last month.

Candy Bar Sales We are trying a new fundraiser this spring. The students (and parents if you wish) will be selling “Worlds Finest Chocolate” candy bars for a dollar each. There are six flavors in each box: Almond, Caramel, Crisp, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate and Wafer bars. Proceeds from the sales can be used for the yet unnamed trip for next year, or possibly band fees in the fall. If you wish to check out a box or two of candy bars, the student and parent must sign the Band Candy Bar Fundraiser form. Only when the Band Candy Bar form is returned may the student check candy bars. Boxes will not be broken and must be sold in its entirety. If a box is checked out, the student or parent is responsible for turning in $60. Partial payments are not accepted, and unsold candy bars are not accepted. When the Viking Dance Team sold these same candy bars a couple of months ago their team of 8 students made almost $4,000! What can we do with over 100 students?!?!?!?! We will start this fundraiser on Wednesday, May 4. All money needs to be turned in on Tuesday, May 17.
Section Leader Applications will be available starting tomorrow morning for anyone interested. To be considered for a section leader position, students should have marched for at least one year to have an understanding of what is needed to be a leader in the marching band. Applications are due back to the band office on or before Friday, May 13.
Band Dessert Banquet for ALL band students – Tuesday, May 17, 6p – SM West Cafeteria
Graduation – Band Concert– ALL non-senior Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble students. Call time 6:20 @ SM South
That’s plenty for now.
We hope this information along with the yearly calendar everyone received at the beginning of the year is helpful to your planning.
Hang in there everyone – we’re almost to the end!
