GREAT JOB yesterday at the Mega Car Wash! We washed over 320 cars – 145 in Lenexa and 177 in Lenexa! Thanks to Westlake Ace hardware for the location and a great thank you to the students and parents who helped out to make the Mega Car Wash a success!
Coming Up This Week
Here’s what’s happening this week…
Monday, we continue our 7 a.m. rehearsals. Again, every day we have band class, we have a 7a rehearsal until the last competition in October. Another reminder for our percussion section – You all have decided to NOT have Monday night rehearsals this year, but rather join with the rest of the group on Tuesdays.
Worlds Finest Chocolate Bar Sales – This was a solid fundraiser for us last spring…it’s back! All profit goes into your student account for the Hollywood trip, or will help offset the cost of the marching band show and/or clinicians for all the bands in the spring. EVERY BAND MEMBER BENEFITS! Therefore we need everyone’s help. Candy bars are $1 each. That’s cheaper than at Quick Trip! Each box has 60 bars in it – therefore it costs $60. Your profit is $25 per box I believe. Students can sell throughout the school, at work, home, parking lot, wherever you are. Once you check out the box, you owe the band $60. There are no refunds or partial boxes sold. All money must be returned in the supplied envelope with your name on it.
Tuesday – night rehearsal beginning at 6p with ALL marching band members. Hornline will rehearse from 6 to 8p. Percussion rehearses from 6 to 9p.
Uniform Update – It is looking like our uniforms will not arrive until mid-September. It is a normal plan in recent years that the first game of the year we perform in our black band T-shirts, black long socks, and black marching band shoes with black athletic shorts of your choosing. We will also plan on taking our marching band picture in this same uniform. Therefore, please make sure all Marching Band members have some kind of black athletic shorts available in the next week. We are hoping to take pictures either on Friday, Aug. 26 or Wednesday, Aug. 31. I will keep you posted.
Thursday – Bonfire Pep Rally. The school is hosting a pep rally out by the Antioch parking lot on Thursday evening around 7:30-8:00p. They would like a pep band if we can. Everyone is invited to join us. I’ll try to put together a list early in the week of interested members. Don’t forget, that is also a Beginning Band recruitment night. If you have volunteered or been asked to help Mr. Hupe – THAT is your priority. That recruitment is our future, That needs to be your priority.
Saturday – 1:00p at West anyone who can is invited to help us make rain sticks! I have purchased all the necessary parts – PVC pipe, end caps, screws, and beans. We need to drill holes and put the screws in, paint and then put the beans in and seal them up. If you have cordless drills, drill bits, or tarps to paint please bring them. We’ll meet at the band room and probably work on stage if available or work just outside the band room in the grass. I am thinking from 1-4p. Whatever we don’t get accomplished this weekend, we will work again on Sep. 10 at the same time. If you can help, please see your email from 8-21 for the signup link – this is open to Band students, parents and band supporters! Freshmen students and parents, this is a great way to meet more people – you are welcome too!
Looking ahead…

Other notes:
Marching Band Students, please do not register to take the ACT on Saturday, Oct. 22. That is K-State weekend. There are a lot of other available dates to sign up for. Sometimes we have our clinic in the morning – this is a required performance.
Instruments should be going home, and music should be practiced. The marching band has already had a music memorization deadline. Another one is coming for movements one and two soon!
Freshman Concert Band – you will have a playing test coming soon. Take those instruments home and get your chops back in shape. 😊
Calendar events on BandAides and Facebook Events for our marching performances, showcases and competitions will be coming soon. Parents, please see your email from 8/21 for links to sign up and volunteer to help make these events as smooth and successful for your band student as possible!
