Are you excited? Are you ready? Our first live performance for the Marching Band, Color and Dance teams is this Friday! We have the whole schedule for the week listed out, and ways parents can help too!
Schedule
Monday – Sep. 12
Freshman (Concert) Band – Playing test of the Star Spangled Banner. This is to be played from memory. Correct notes, rhythms, style, and breathing is the expectation. You may turn it in tonight in Canvas (it is open now) or play it tomorrow in class.
Marching Band – During the morning rehearsal we will finish pregame with the run-on tunnel, and hopefully get a run-through of the first movement. It is a shortened period. Pep band members, I will need you to sign up in the morning so I can type a list and send it out for dismissal. You will be dismissed from class at 9:30. We need to be in the gym playing before 10:00.
Hollywood Chaperone meeting in the band room – 7:00p.m. We will talk through your responsibilities during the trip. We will go through the schedule as it stands now, how the flights will work as well as rooms assignments and being available and encouraging for students throughout the tour. You will be their parents while on tour. 😊
Tuesday
Regular Tuesday night rehearsal. On the field at 6:00p. We WILL be taking out pit percussion and the sound system. We will need all pit members back around 5:45 as well as some others to help with taking out the PA system so we can get the most out of our rehearsal. We want to add on movement 2 so be ready with music memorized and coordinate sheets.
Wednesday
Normal rehearsal. Movement two is our goal with some run-throughs!
Friday – GAME DAY!
Normal 7:00 a.m. rehearsal. Outside to run Pregame and the tunnel. Marching the halls at 7:45A????? Back to the band room to run through cheers for the night. Talk through the evenings’ schedule.
4:00p call time for ALL Marching Band students. (That is the time all Marching Band members should be back in the band room.) Take pit equipment, percussion, sousaphones, trombones, baritones, mellophones and tenor saxes outside by 4:00p. Come dressed in BLACK shorts, band T-shirt, black long socks, and marching band shoes. The busses pull out by 4:30p. All students remain in the band room (not in practice rooms, ensemble room, halls, etc.) while getting dressed or prepped. It’s OK to run to the restroom to change. You need to be able to hear announcements. Chaperones, we need you by 4:00p also to help as needed. Help students with hair, shoes, gloves, maybe help with water jugs and other needs. Make sure to take the First Aid Kit, West Pride banner (and something to hang it with), and the video camera and tripod from Thomas’/Hupe’s office.
We will play in the stands for the entire game except for 3rd quarter. During that time the students will have time to go to the restroom, concession stand, or hang out in the student section. ALL students MUST be back in the band section with instruments for the time between the third and fourth quarter to play “The Band is Hot.” Do not be late. After the game, we must reload the truck and busses for the return to West. ALL students are expected to stay and help unload the truck. No one is dismissed until the truck is unloaded. Parents, if you do not attend the game (which we hope you do to cheer on your student!), we need you to pick up your students in a timely manner back at the band room. Your student will text you when the game is over. It will be about 45 minutes to an hour from that time until your son/daughter is free to go. Please be at the band room early.
Thanks to everyone for reading and absorbing all of these details. We will remind students throughout the week of their timelines and responsibilities.

We will complete rooming assignments and talk about expectations, schedules, and other things you need to know for a successful trip.
