WOW! Awesome job yesterday! We are so proud of your work and accomplishments. In case you hadn’t heard, the Band placed third in our division, the drumline was second in their division (indoors) and the Colorguard was first in their division (indoors)! Thank you all for everything you have invested into making yourselves and your band better. Hard work always pays off.
As proud as we are of your performance, we are even more proud of your behavior. See the following note.
Hello! My name is Kelli Knapp and my daughter plays in the Lees Summit West Marching band. As our school was performing today a large group of students from Shawnee Mission West was watching our band. I just wanted to share with you that I am very impressed with them. They were not only kind and courteous audience members but several of them were genuinely cheering our band on. They were noticing when things went well and were celebrating our band and color guard as if they were good friends with them. In a world where we hear so much negativity it warmed my heart to see such incredible students and people cheering on and supporting strangers.
Music is such an incredible gift we get to share and enjoy with each other, and I am honored I was there to share that moment with your incredible students and future leaders. I hope you had a successful day today!
Sincerely,
-Kelli Knapp
This is a crazy week, so please read carefully.
Schedule This Week
Monday – normal ALL day
Tuesday – Odd Block Day – Marching band at 7:00a.
As a reward and as repayment for coming in last Tuesday night – let’s take this night off. NO evening Marching Band practice!
Wednesday – Testing day
Thursday – Even Block day.
Concert Band and Jazz Bands Concert 7:00p.m in the West Auditorium. Call time for all performers is 6:30p. The concert will last about an hour and a half. This will be the unveiling of our Jazz and Concert Bands for the year. It will be great – Don’t miss it. Even if you are not performing, please come and support your friends! It will be a great time!
The last home football game on Friday, is the Glow Show. Call time is 5:00p to load and depart by 5:30p. (Reminder – there is no school on this day) This is an incredibly fun show that the entire community looks forward to each season. The band will march our show on the turf with the stadium lights turned out – after the game. Each student will purchase their own glow sticks (Dollar Tree, Wal~mart, Amazon – wherever you desire). At half-time, we will recognize our seniors and their parents.
After halftime, students will change out of uniform into dark jeans/pants and a dark t-shirt/top. The students will decorate t-shirt/top and/or pants using glow sticks. Some students outline themselves with LED’s that’s fine too. There are three rules for the enjoyment of our audience and protection of our instruments – 1) lights cannot flash, 2) lights cannot shine directly at the crowd & 3) please do not tape to a school owned instrument. The tape residue sometimes does not come off. Start purchasing your glow sticks NOW so you’re not in a panic on the day of the game.
Senior Parents – please dress nicely. You will escort your student across the field at halftime in alphabetical order by last name. Your student will be in uniform. Pictures will be taken at the front sideline after you have been introduced. Congratulations on this milestone. Thank you each for all you have done for sticking with us for these four years of HS and all the encouragement and support you have provided!
