This week is a strange week. We only have two rehearsals because of a strange calendar. We really need everyone at their best to be prepared for K-State on Saturday. IF we have rain on Tuesday evening we WILL rehearse inside to work on music and visuals.
Choir members, we will miss you Tuesday night, but hope you have a great concert! Monday, Tuesday (odd/even schedule), Wednesday (All), Thursday and Friday off.
THURSDAY – MOD Pizza Dine to Donate – ALL Day.
We have an incredible opportunity to raise some serious money by eating out. MOD Pizza in Lenexa are offering 50% of everyone’s purchase on this day IF you mention the SM West Band or present the attached coupon. Since it is a day off, we have a tremendous opportunity. To make for a bigger day, let’s have some fun. I think we need a competition of classes eating at specified times. This can be powerful if ALL band members invite their school classmates to join them at specific times – Seniors 11:00a-1:00p, Juniors 1:00-3:00p, Sophomores 3:00-5:00p, and Freshmen from 5:00-7:00p. I’ll share this in the school announcements. Can we pack the restaurant this Thursday???? Please share the attached flyer with friends, family and co-workers.
Upcoming Schedule
Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday and Friday, Oct. 18 & 20. Parents feel free to drop by! Grades are pretty self-explanatory. If your students have memorized their music and played it off (demonstrated memorizations) for a section leader, Mr. Hupe or I, AND attended all their games (marching band), they have an “A”. If you would like more detailed information or have questions, please come on by!
Thursday, October 19 is the Freshman Concert Band and Jazz Bands concert at 7:00p in the auditorium. Call time is 6:30p for these groups. Concert dress for this concert (for the Concert Band) is “dress nicely.” You may wear concert black, but you may wear any color shirt or pants as long as it is dress attire. As always, jeans and tennis shoes are not appropriate for concert attire. Mr. Hupe will provide details of appropriate dress for the jazz bands.
Friday, October 20 is a home football game. It is Senior Night AND the Glow Show! We will not serve dinner on this night, nor will we have a stadium rehearsal. Therefore, call time to dress into uniform and load the trailer will be 5:00p. Senior band and dance team members will be announced at half-time. Parents you will walk with them across the field. Please dress nicely for the pictures being taken. Dan Novovesky will be at the 50 yard line taking photos. Photos will be available for downloads or prints formatted for 8×10 at our SmugMug Band Archive site. The Glow Show will take place post game.
Concert Dress – ALL Concert Band Members
We have made the decision and are going forward with the ALL BLACK look. This is for the December concert going forward.
Gentlemen will wear black dress pants, black dress socks and black dress shoes, with a black long-sleeve dress shirt. This look is what many professional and college groups are currently using. Jeans, polos, tennis shoes, short socks are not acceptable concert wear.
Ladies will wear an all-black dress or all black shirt, with an all-black skirt. You may also wear black dress slacks if desired. This should be floor length and worn with black dress shoes (flats or heals). If the dress or shirt does not have sleeves, you should wear a shawl, or jacket of some sort.
We are striving for a dressy look – not casual. Keep that in mind as you prepare to purchase your attire. I saw several options on Amazon. Walmart has men’s dress slacks and dress shirts for $20 each. JC Penney, and Target are also options as I am sure they are many others in the metro as well. This is clothing that can be used for interviews, auditions, even work in some places. If purchasing this attire is a struggle for you or your family, please let Dr. Thomas or Mr. Hupe know. We do not want this to create an unnecessary hardship for your family. I do have some catalogs you can order from if desired, but you will have to have the pants or dresses hemmed after you receive them.
Let’s have a great week of rehearsals and HOME PRACTICE as we prepare for some important performances!
