Tomorrow night there is an orchestra concert in which many band students will be performing with the strings to create a “Full Orchestra.” Therefore, we will not have a pep band play at tomorrow night’s basketball games. We just will not have enough players to field a qualitative, representative group.
Thursday night is the December band concert beginning at 7:00p.m. We will take our yearbook pictures prior to the concert at 6:00p for the Wind Ensemble and 6:15 for the Symphonic (Concert) Band. Students need to be onstage at their appointed time with their instrument.
Remember, concert dress is ALL BLACK. Women can wear a long black dress or dress pants and long sleeve dress shirt with dress shoes. Men are in black dress pants and a black long sleeve dress shirt, with black dress shoes and socks. Jeans and tennis shoes are not considered dress clothes. We’ve talked about this in previous emails and daily in class. If a student has an issue with this attire, they should visit with a director ASAP. DO NOT wait until the night of the concert – that is too late. We can still help if talked to tomorrow. We don’t want this to preclude anyone from performing, but we also want to look “professional.”
Finals are coming up next week. This Thursday’s concert serves as the final for the first period bands. The sixth period (Freshman Concert Band) will also have a scale playing test and written counting test – in addition to attendance at the concert.
If you are looking for gift ideas for your budding musician, please email Mr. Hupe or I as we can offer some stocking stuffer ideas as well as bigger items that can reward and encourage your student.
The band students are working incredibly hard preparing for Thursday’s concert. I hope you are seeing and hearing them practice. It would be a shame you missed these great performances on Thursday evening. The concert will last about an hour and a half with all five of our groups performing.
We are so excited for the future of our bands because of YOUR students. We’ll see you all on Thursday at 7:00p.m. in the auditorium.
