We are firmly entering into the band’s competition season and several dates and events are coming up. Keep reading for more information.
Let’s start with congratulations to both the Jazz Lab Ensemble and Overland Express for Superior Ratings at the Pitt State Jazz Festival a couple of weeks ago. Well done eveyone! We’re proud of your accomplishments!
Tuesday (Mar. 26). Wind Ensemble performs at SM East in the Shawnee Mission Wind Ensemble Festival. The concert begins at 7:00p. The Wind Ensemble members should be in the choir room at 6:00por shortly thereafter. The concert will last until about 8:30 or shortly after. This event is a precursor to the State Large Group festival in middle April. We have a university band director that will be in audience for the concert who will then travel to each SM high school to clinic the bands to provide thoughts and ideas about how to make our performances better. The students should be dressed in our typical “Concert Black” all black from head to toe.
Monday, April 1 is the SM West Solo and Ensemble Recital Night. This will be a come and go event from 6:00p-8:00p in the band room. This is an opportunity for all of the individuals and groups to perform their S&E piece for an adjudicator to receive comments and thoughts to help them improve their performance on the road to the regional Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, April 13. I will post a sign-up sheet in the band room for everyone to sign up for a time slot. Please make sure to have your accompanist join you so you can make this performance as much like the real things as possible. Parents, you are welcome to attend and watch. Please talk with your student to make sure it is OK with them. We certainly don’t want to add to stage fright, but rather show our support.
Thursday, April 4 is the pre-festival concert for the Symphonic Band to be hosted at Shawnee Mission Northwest at 7:00p. Concert dress is “Concert Black,” all black from head to toe. This should be dress clothes including dress shoes and socks. The concert features all the second concert bands from each Shawnee Mission high school. The concert will last until about 8:30 or a little after. Once again, this is in preparation for the State Large Group Music Festival. We will have a local college band director providing recorded commentary during the performance to help the students understand what they can do to improve their performance.
Spring Flower Sale – This has become a yearly, strong, sought-after fundraiser. Here is an attachment that provides all the details you need. Please share with friends and local family members. https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:2490dee3-0526-408d-b419-1afbde0d3933?viewer%21megaVerb=group-discover. There are pictures to help the “flower challenged” (like me) as well as a spreadsheet for you to fill out. The form will be sent to Melissa Hardesty who will compile a master order. Then you can use the QR code to pay for your order. These flowers have been highly touted as great, healthy, and hearty products. We only have a few days left to order, so don’t delay. Make your choices for your front yard, fill out the form, send it to Melissa and make your payment. Don’t miss out – we do not order extra product. What is ordered is what is provided. Again – please share with your friends. It is also on FaceBook.
Thank you all for being so dedicated, supportive, and helpful. The West Pride, and it’s parents are awesome! Have a great week!
