Hello everyone. Bravo to the Marching Band for last Thursday’s game performances. You should be proud of your efforts! Here are this week’s notes.
Schedule This Week
Normal Tuesday night rehearsal. 6-8p (9p percussion) We will finish Movement 3 and begin to add on Movement 4. Make sure you are practicing your music at home. If you have not passed off your music that is due to this point, you’d probably better get that played off as I will be getting grades entered sometime this week. Freshmen roadies, we need you please.
Freshman Band – Playing test tomorrow (Monday) of the B flat concert scale – from memory. Thursday will be the Fight Song Playing test. Parents – have you seen the instrument come home to practice? Your students are getting grades for these tests, just like in math or science class. Please encourage home practice. Every student has the tools for success – IF they practice outside of class.
Friday Night Home Football game – Marching Band. Call time is again 4:00p in the band room. Freshmen roadies, chaperones, roadies, and photographers are again needed. Do we have a parent that can run a video recorder for us? I have a very nice camera; I just need someone to push record for both pregame and half time. Let me know. We probably need to get an earlier start getting equipment outside, so our parents have a better chance of getting things loaded in a timely manner allowing us to get to the stadium and have complete run throughs.
Upcoming Events
London Meeting: Monday, Sep. 22, 7:00p in the cafeteria. This will be chaperone/roommate selection.
Away Football game against SM South @ South stadium – Friday, Sept. 26. We will have a pep band. Meaning any Marching Band or Fr. Concert Band student that wishes to attend may do so. Please show up in your band T-shirt with your instrument at South stadium at 6:30p.m.ish. You can find us in the east side stands. Your instrument and T-shirt will admit you for free.
London Travelers – I have emailed out two Google Forms that need your attention. Due Immediately is the generic London Questionnaire asking general questions with your name, date of birth, and food allergies/needs. In case you don’t yet have your passport, I removed the passport # as a required question for now. And then the ETA Questionnaire for those who already have their passports.
*** I NEED your Passports tomorrow if you are not using them in the next three months, unless you have talked with Dr. Thomas personally.
Don’t forget the Mum Sale – See the band’s online store – https://cuttime.simpleraise.com/stores/849-shawnee-mission-west-high-school-band-program-store
**Monday, September 29 is the SMSD Marching Festival. **Please let your coaches know that your call time is 5:00p that night. This event features all of the SMSD marching bands performing their competition shows. It is held at SM South stadium. It begins at 7:00p and will conclude around 8:30p. Admittance is free.
The K-State Marching Festival Itinerary will be published soon. I have our performance time which is 3:00p. and our clinic is 10a. I just need to work the schedule backwards to determine the time we depart West and the times we return. Again, we are planning on having one bus return early for those attending the Homecoming Dance. I do not yet have the schedule for Warrensburg.
Freshman Concert Band and OE, don’t forget you have a concert on Thursday, October 9 at 7:00p in the auditorium. Do you have the proper attire for the evening? Please refer to the band handbook on the BAW website to confirm. https://bandaides.org/wp/band-forms/
Have a wonderful week!
