Just a few things left for the year – can you believe it!
Let me start off by congratulating the percussionists last night. What a great concert! In my opinion, this was the strongest percussion concert in a few years – meaning you were the most prepared! BRAVO. Let’s do it again next year, and let’s talk about how to promote it and get even more people to join in the fun!
Important Dates
Tuesday – BAW Meeting and LAST CHANCE TO DONATE towards the Savers fundraiser. I’ll have the trailer unlocked at 6:00p for anyone to place their donations into the trailer. The final BAW meeting of the year begins at 7:00p in the band room. We’ll be discussing the banquet and laying plans for next marching season. The Savers flyer is attached. We still have room for YOUR donations!
Thursday is the final concert of the year – our Spring Concert. Dress is “springy.” Meaning you do not have to wear your concert black, but you must still wear nice casual clothes – dress/casual pants, shirts, dresses, skirts, shoes etc. No jeans, shorts, tennis shoes etc. Dressing nicely helps to put performers in the “Zone.” Call time is 6:30 to warm up. The concert begins at 7:00p with OE, followed by the Symphonic Band and then the Wind Ensemble. The concert will last less than 90 minutes.
Have you turned in your Tri-M application? A specific email was sent about that on Friday.
Senior Scholarship – Would you like to have $1,000 for college? Don’t forget to apply for the BAW Band Scholarship! It was first emailed out on April 19. The application is due THIS WEEK – May 8. Parents must be BAW members.
Band or Jazz Camp this summer? BAW provides for one student each to attend a band camp and a Jazz camp this coming summer. The hope is that the awarded student will return and help the others in the groups to improve as well. It was due on Friday May 1. We’ll also make this due on May 8. Parents must be BAW members.
Band Banquet – Monday, May 18, 6:00p in the West Cafeteria. This is a dessert banquet, and everything will be provided – you don’t have to bring anything but your family. At this event we will recognize EVERY band student for their contributions to the band this year. We will also recognize our band camp award winners and Sr. Scholarship winner. The evening will conclude with the always-popular Year-End Video.
Graduation – Wednesday, May 20, South Stadium. Call time is 6:20, we begin playing at 6:40. Be prepared to arrive early. Parking is difficult at best – the stadium is packed. It will take you a good 10 minutes to walk in from your car. Attire is again, dress nicely – no jeans, tennis shoes, etc. The ceremony will conclude around 8:30. This is for ALL band students.
Would you like to rent an instrument for the summer? See Dr. Thomas, or Mr. Hupe. We’d LOVE for you to practice and come to band camp ready for the season – at least not rusty. 🙂
