Welcome back to school everyone! We’ve missed everyone since band camp. I hope you’ve enjoyed a few extra days of freedom from a normal schedule. But now we get to make great music and provide excitement for our fans again!
Schedule This Week
Tuesday, Aug. 11 is the first Band-Aides (BAW going forward) meeting of the year at 7:00p in the band room. Since this is the West Pride Band’s Booster Club, it is primarily for parents, but students are welcome to attend. This is where we discuss upcoming events, and the need for parent helpers, or leadership in various areas. The meeting will usually last an hour or less. If you want to know what is happening in the band, or how you can be of service and support to the students, this is the place to meet each month. We typically meet on the first Tuesday of the month, unless there are conflicting events.
Wednesday, Aug. 12 – First day for Freshman students. You do NOT need to bring your instruments. You will only be in the band room for about 10 minutes.
Pep Band – We will have a Pep Band of upperclassmen to perform for our new students in the afternoon. Let’s plan on meeting at 1:15 and going to the gym around 1:35p.m. Please wear your band t-shirt.
Thursday, Aug. 13 – First Day for ALL SM West Students (ALL 7 period day) – Do bring your instrument. We will play as we can, finish assigning lockers, pick up forms and fees packets, and take care of any other miscellaneous house-keeping details. Please return your Forms and Fees packet including the fee payment envelope (if possible – in the big white envelope provided to you). It helps us keep everything straight. Remember that general band fees can be paid online through Cut Time. District instrument rental fees are handled separately: simply check the box on your rental form, and that fee will be loaded into your Skyward account to pay a few days later. How are your MEGA CAR WASH pledges and donations going?
Friday, Aug. 14 – ALL 7 period day.
Saturday – whew, we made it through the first two days of school. 🙂
Upcoming Events
Monday – All- 7 period day.
Tuesday – Even 2, seminar, 4, 6, day. Marching Band rehearsal from 6-8 p.m. (percussion continues until 9:00p)
Wednesday Aug. 19 – Marching Band pictures at 7:00a. Please don’t be late. You will change into your uniform and report to the gym by 7:15a to get set up for marching band pictures – ALL marching band and dance team students are included and need to have a full band pictures taken, section picture and individual picture taken. Senior Parents – IF you are a paid BAW member, your student will receive a free Senior banner to be displayed at our home football and basketball games. If you choose not to pay the BAW membership fee, the cost of the banner is $40.
Saturday, Aug. 22 – Viking Fall Kick-Off. This is a fun event to showcase all of our West fall sports teams including the West Pride Marching Band. The marching band will serve as a pep band for the event. This will be a volunteer activity and will take place at about 10:30a.m. More details to come.
