Greetings everyone.
Here is the last email from marching season. Let’s start off with how proud we are of the members of the marching band. While we missed finals (by 1.8 points) we still had a great season and came farther than we thought possible after our pandemic year. Six months ago, Mr. Hupe and I had no idea how far we could go this season with two-thirds of the band being rookie marchers and not knowing how hard we would have to work to get into finals. Some of our sister schools in Blue Valley and Olathe still had some kind of marching season last year. So – BRAVO to the students of the marching band! From my last email THANK YOU to the parents who have helped in some way or another throughout the last three months. You are all very much appreciated!
Red Wheel orders
Red Wheel orders will be delivered tomorrow (Monday) from 2:45 until 5:00p.m. Make sure that if you took orders that you have someone pick them up. They MUST be picked up from the band room (Entrance 39) between those hours AND delivered since most of the items are frozen. They will have a copy of the order form with your orders so you know who they need to be delivered to.
BandAides West Meeting
BAW meeting – Tomorrow (Monday night) at 7:00p. It is on Monday due to the election on Tuesday. We will celebrate the marching season, debrief about the details of the season and look toward the rest of the year. Dr. Thomas will be able to be at this one since there is no rehearsal! I am excited to see everyone. This meeting is open (and encouraged) for all band parents from 9-12th grade. We will discuss concert season, pep band (basketball season), music season (March and April). We will have a fundraising event in early February that we will need lots of help with. Since we haven’t been able to host our normal fundraisers, we need to make this one big to be able to fund the rest of the year and have start-up money for next year. Any car enthusiasts in our midst? We have typically hosted a car show in the spring, but we need someone to head this up.
Pep Band
Pep Band rehearsals begin this coming Wednesday morning. Rehearsals will be Monday and Wednesday mornings from 7:00a-7:30a so students can still get to class on time. We will learn a lot of music over the next six weeks as we look forward to playing for our home varsity basketball games. This is a volunteer group made of students from grades 9-12. We’d love to have everyone join us. It is very light-hearted easy-going. Many students say this is their favorite part of the year. All students need to do to sign up and show up this coming Wednesday morning.
District Band
Auditioning for the District Honor Band? – I need your videos NO LATER than Monday night. I must upload to an unlisted YouTube channel, so I need time to complete that process. I would love to listen to each of you tomorrow in class to see if I (or Mr. Hupe) can offer any advice. Having another opinion (even if you are taking lessons) is a good thing. The more people that can help you be prepared, the better your chances of making the group. We want to encourage and help you make it!
More Email?
Emails moving forward – since things will slow down now, you can expect that emails will also slow down. You will now hear from me about every other week instead of every week. Again – BRAVO students for a very successful season – even if the outcome wasn’t’ exactly what we had hoped for. And THANK YOU to all of the parents for helping with ALL of the various tasks needed to produce a quality marching band.
