Thank you for working so hard to make our December concert so exquisite! Up next is the Chili Supper Concert on Saturday, February 5. This will be a concert in which students can earn lettering points for helping serve during the event. Parents, we will also need your help in various ways. Be looking for notes from our wonderful Band~Aides Executive Board and Chili Supper committee chairs.
But before that happens, we have our first two home basketball games this coming week. Students have been assigned to one of two pep bands, but they are free to come to games they are not assigned to if they just love to play. They will be awarded additional lettering points for their extra work! The required uniform is their band T-shirt with jeans. Call time each night will be 5:30 in the band room to warm up.
We will go to the gym to play starting at half-time of the girls’ game followed by the entire boys’ game. The band will get the third quarter off to go to the concessions stand, see their friends, etc. As always, we will return to play “The Band is Hot” between the third and fourth quarters. The games end anywhere between 8:45 and 9:30 usually. If you are picking up your student, they should call you at the start of the fourth quarter.
If you have contact with any band alumni, they are invited to join us for this Friday’s Basketball game. They will be granted free admission with their instrument in hand. We just ask that they wear something West related (maybe an old band T-shirt) or other West spirit wear. They should try to be here around 6:45p. If they need to borrow a school-owned instrument, it would be helpful if they email Mr. Hupe or I this week so we can be prepared. They should provide their own reeds if possible.
Different schedule this week.
Please refer to the email sent out by the school for this weeks class schedule. It is different. Tomorrow is an Odd Block Day.
Parents, if you are looking for something musical for your young musician for Christmas, may I suggest a new mouthpiece? Short of an entirely new instrument, nothing improves a player’s sound more than a high-quality mouthpiece. If you would like more information, please contact Mr. Hupe or Mr. Thomas. Additionally, the gift of lessons is another way to encourage your young musicians growth. It is an especially great investment if he or she is planning to audition for college regardless of their potential major. College bands are FILLED with non-music majors. Let us know how we can help you.
This will be the last communication before the break. We do hope you have time to relax with family and friends and de-stress. The past couple of years have been excruciatingly hard for everyone. Hopefully time away will allow everyone to center themselves as we prepare for the second semester.
