Thanks to all the parents and students who helped get our new uniforms prepped and ready to fit the students. They will look great this coming Friday! There are a lot of things coming up so let’s get straight into it. This is Homecoming week and we want to look and sound our best!
Schedule This week
Monday (tomorrow) – We need to prepare the backdrops for use in the MB show. I need probably ten people to help us assemble the props for use. Can we meet at the band room at 6p? There are two 10×15 backdrops and one rolling scaffold to prepare. This can be students and/or parents.
Tuesday – Normal Tuesday evening rehearsal 6-8p (6-9p for percussion).
Thursday – Homecoming parade at 1:30p. ALL marching band students are required to participate with the band unless you are a king/queen candidate. Students, we will put out an email to all staff for you to be dismissed at 12:45 to get ready for the parade. Please wear your band T-shirt and shorts/jeans and tennis shoes. The temperature is slated to be 72 degrees. If you have an issue, please visit with Dr. Thomas on Monday. Parents you can line up along Santa Fe street to watch. Often parents who are able to change their lunch schedule come join in the fun.
Friday – Home football game. Call time is 4:00p to dress into uniform and load the truck. We will perform post-game this week due to the crowning of the king and queen at halftime.
Next Week Schedule
Monday (Oct. 3) – Shawnee Mission Marching Festival – Call time 5:00p in the band room to change into uniform and load the truck. No dinner is served, eat before you arrive at the band room. There is no concession stand at the stadium this night. The show is at SM South and begins at 7p. It will end around 8:30p. By the time we load and get back to West it will be about 9:30. Any parents who can take photos of our band will be most welcome, our photographer emeritus may not be available for this.
Tuesday – SHORT Marching Band rehearsal 6p-7p. Westridge 8th graders will join us for a pregame rehearsal since they will join us on Friday at the game. BAW meeting at 7p in the band room.
Wednesday – District Honor Band entries are due to Dr. Thomas. There is a sign-up sheet in the front of the band room on the marker board. The actual audition date is Saturday, Nov. 5 at Gardner Edgerton HS. Transportation is on our own.
Friday – Home Football. Call time 4:00p.m. Westridge 8th graders will be joining us at the stadium for pregame. The equipment truck will stay loaded for Saturday’s Marching Competition in Lee’s Summit.
Saturday – Marching Festival in Lee’s Summit. Detailed schedule attached. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend. Admission is $10. We will need Roadies and Chaperones like normal.

All Bands – Grades have been entered. Please make sure they are correct. If you think there is a mistake, please talk to Dr. Thomas in class.
Concert Band – Your concert is on the calendar for Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7p in the auditorium. Gentlemen – make sure you all have black dress pants, black dress shoes and socks, and a long sleeve black dress shirt. Ladies – you may also wear the same as the men, or a long black dress or skirt with a black top. Any other color besides black is not uniform and is not acceptable. IF YOU ARE HAVING DIFFICULTIES obtaining the required outfit, please talk with Dr. Thomas for possible solutions. Do not wait until the day before the concert to ask.
