Hello everyone. I hope you had a relaxing weekend with such great weather! Let’s look at the upcoming week – It will be a busy one. This is what memories are made of! Enjoy our time together! Parents, there are a lot of ways for you to be involved and support your student. It means a lot to your student to see their parent supporting them and giving on their behalf
This Weeks Schedule
Monday – Normal morning rehearsal. We will begin working on movement three drill.
Tuesday – Night rehearsal. We will continue working on movement three drill, marching, and playing. We will play all three movements outside to review the first two movements. We will also use the backdrops without the truss, and the sound system. We need to balance the ensemble a little better.
Freshman Concert Band – Playing Test for the Fight Song. I hope you have been practicing at home. :-). Thursday, we will start concert band music for your upcoming October 19 concert.
Wednesday morning – normal block rehearsal. Continuing to work on putting drill into place marching and playing.
Wednesday evening – This is the bonfire pep rally in the evening. This is a volunteer event for any band member including the freshman concert band. I do not yet know the location on campus. I will open the band room at 7:00p we can go out around 7:15. The event is slated to start around 7:30 and should be finished around 7:50. I will lock up the band room by 8:00p.
Thursday – Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally. The parade begins at 1:30. Marching Band, let’s get out of class at 12:45. Your uniform for the parade is your band T-shirt and shorts or jeans and tennis shoes – your choice. Unless you are in the top 12, it is expected that you will be marching with the band. We are small and need every player to sound full. Attendance will be taken as a normal performance. Many parents join in the fun closer to the Overland Park Pavilion along the parade route by taking a late lunch. We’d love to see and hear you cheering us on! We should have a live stream of the parade on the West Band Facebook Page starting about 1:30 PM!
Friday – Home football game. Call time is 4:00p in the band room to change into uniform and load the trailer. Pregame will be like normal; we’ll take the field around 6:50. Since this is homecoming, the King and Queen will be crowned at half-time. Therefore, we will perform our show post game, so we get a run of the show under the lights in a performance situation. This will cause for a later return time to West, probably around 10:30p.
Grades, Fundraising
Grades are being updated tonight. If you see something that doesn’t seem correct regarding your memorization, please talk to your section leader or Mr. Hupe or I (whoever was supposed to sign you off) for any corrections and then section leaders let Dr. Thomas know so it can be corrected in Skyward. It is NOT too late to pass off your music. Our contest ratings depend upon music memorization. The more students with their music memorized the better our performance and the better our scores.
MEGA Car Was money is due tomorrow. Remember to turn in your money with the Pledge/Donation sheet. All of that should be in a sealed envelope with your name on the envelope AND the enclosed Pledge/Donation sheet so we can properly track your earnings.
If you have towels, buckets, soap or any other car wash items needing to be returned to the band room, please do that in the next couple of days so we can put all of that away and clean up the storage shed. THANK YOU ALL for your help washing towels and providing the necessary items for this BIG event!
Have you ordered your Mums? Have you passed along the flyer on your social media accounts? One is attached for your convenience. Those will be delivered to the Antioch parking lot on Saturday, September 30. A Sign-up Genius link was sent out a few days ago via My Music Office looking for additional assistance. Students, you can help with this fundraiser also! We also would like a pep band for this event to draw attention to passing traffic. This is during the Overland Park Fall Festival, so there will be lots of traffic in the area, including a full parking lot for shuttle service!
Homecoming Concessions Help Needed – This is a profitable fundraiser for us. Parents, your help is needed. Freshmen students (not in the marching band) and freshmen parents can also help here. The money earned will help ALL band students not just the marching band. This is a perfect opportunity for Freshmen parents to get to know other parents in the organization. Parents, Please sign up for a shift in SignUpGenius! We would also still use a few parents to help with the normal marching band activities – roadies, uniforms, tailgating etc.
Lots going on. It is a busy time, but this is what memories are made of! Enjoy our time together! Parents, there are a lot of ways for you to get involved and support your student. It means a lot to them to see their parent supporting them and giving on their behalf. I do hope you consider helping in some manner if you are able.
