What a great week last week! Between a great week of rehearsals, a concert on Thursday and a wonderfully fun Glow Show on Friday, we’ve been busy!
Event Photos
I heard that the pictures and video from Friday’s Senior Night and glow show have been posted to Facebook and to Smug Mug. You can download whatever you wish from those sites. The SmugMug site has the full resolution pictures. You DO NOT need to purchase from this site. Double click on the picture. It wil open in a new window. On the left side is beyond the “Buy This Photo” information is a download button. The picture on your screen will go straight to your downloads folder – no purchase or email necessary. If you do choose to purchase from Smugmug (magnets, mugs, etc – it is all at cost – we have no markup on the site! There are a BUNCH of pictures of individual students as well as fun group shots and action shots of the students performing. A huge thank you to Dan Novovesky, Will England, and John Schnake for taking pictures and video at our events. If there have been others, I’m sorry if I missed your name.
Don’t forget the pictures from the K-State Festival taken by the LBJ Photographer. Those are for sale, but again, there are some wonderful shots of your students! “The On-field Performance images are now available online at www.MiLBJ.com or use this link: CSMF 2023 @ KSU – Client Galleries – www.MiLBJ.com.”
Marching Band
Marching Band let’s look ahead. This week looks rainy. Unless it is a complete downpour, we will plan on being outside cleaning during our rehearsals. Please come prepared. We have a lot left to do if we want to make finals at Warrensburg. Only 10 bands will be invited into finals. They are taking the top two scoring bands from each category (there are four categories). They will then take the next two highest scores to round out the top ten. We will meet at 7a on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If it is raining, we will work on music inside. Please make every effort to be on time. We do not want to waste any time this final push.
Tuesday night will be a Drumline and Guard/DT-only rehearsal. Drumline plans on being ready to move equipment at 6 p.m. or before. Dance and Guard will meet at 6:30. During your time together, you will go to the AUX gym to practice for your standstill performance. The full marching band will NOT meet on Tuesdayso that the Guard/DT and Drumline can focus on their indoor performance.
Saturday – Warrensburg Festival Of Champions – The full schedule is in this PDF. It includes our movement schedule as well as the Warrensburg Competition schedule. We are taking yellow buses to this show. Notice our load time at West. We will go as a group to watch the drumline and color guard performances. We will plan to depart in uniform but have street clothes with us to change after our preliminary performance. BRING a jacket to stay warm! Right now the high is projected to only be 52 degrees.
Our group performance times:
10:00 Drumline performance – (all others come watch) – Indoors
11:45 Marching Band performance time
1:30 Colorguard/Dance Team Performance – (all others come watch)
Finals – if we qualify – 6 to 9PM.
Freshman Concert Band
I was VERY PROUD of your performance Thursday! We’ll review the video on Monday and enjoy a little down time. On Tuesday we will retake your counting test (if you did not get an “A” the first time. We will then begin looking towards the December concert.
Concert Band auditions will begin on November 1 for members of the Marching Band. This audition determines placement between the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. Every person needs to play as it is an opportunity for Mr. Hupe & I to hear each individual and assess your growth. It is for a grade. If you have lost the music, there are additional copies on the table next to the PA in the front of the room.
Basketball Pep Band Rehearsals
ALL Band members are encouraged to join us for basketball pep band! This is a volunteer group that provides spirit for home varsity boys and girls basketball games. All students who join are divided into two groups – A Black band and a Gold band. In this way we can cover ALL of the home varsity games without everyone having to commit to being at every game – however you can if you want to. Games tend to be on Tuesday or Friday nights. Each band typically will have a total of 5-6 home games assigned. We will meet every M, W, and F through November from 7:00-7:30a starting on Nov. 1 and going through Dec. 1. That will give us eleven rehearsals. It is a highlight for a lot of students.
District Honor Band
Auditions will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Gardner -Edgerton High School. Transportation is on your own so you may leave whenever you individually are finished. I have not received any additional details, but I believe you will want to be at GE High School before 8a. You will be finished anywhere between 9 and noon.
PARENTS – you have been amazing with all the help and support you have provided. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Everything we have been able to accomplish is because so many of you have stepped up to help in various ways. You are greatly appreciated by your students and by the staff!
Fundraising Report
MEGA Car Wash – We earned over $9,000 between the onsite donations and your collected pledges! Money will be credited to individual accounts soon for underclassmen. Jazz students will be able to use their profits for this year’s Jazz trip. Any unpaid band fees will be credited before the trip.
MOD Pizza Dine to donate – Having that fundraiser on a day off allowed us to earn $834!
Have a great week everyone. It is always FUN to be a part of this amazing group of students and dedicated parents!
