Bravo to the Marching Band for their performance yesterday! The clinician began the day speaking of how well prepared the students were for the day. He then cleaned some sections of the show and the band executed at a very high level during the performance – even in the wind!
We came away with a Superior rating (sometimes known as a One rating). In Music Festivals, groups are rated from 1-5, with 1 = Superior, 2 = Excellent, 3 = Good, 4 = Poor, 5 = Ineffective. We are very proud of the group’s accomplishments, but as we look ahead to Warrensburg (in two weeks) it is a Competition format, meaning that the group will compete head-to-head with the other groups for placement; first, second, third place and beyond. We will compete for placement in our division (AA), and overall. If we score high enough, we will earn the honor to perform again in finals that are held the same evening pitting the top ten bands against each other to crown an overall grand champion. More details will follow.
THANK YOU, parents, for helping Friday night in the concession stand! This is always a great fundraiser for us. The school administration has allowed us to work the homecoming games at football and basketball games (alternating years) for many years. The football concession stand is always very lucrative.
THANK YOU, also to the parents who helped as Roadies, Chaperones, and Tailgaters, planning and serving in those capacities. I cannot overstate how impactful and necessary everyone that helps in these capacities are. It takes a large team of parents working together to take our band on the road to our events. Everyone one of you fills a gap that is necessary and important to the well-oiled functioning of our band. We can always use more! Please consider joining us! You will meet new friends and be a tremendous encouragement to the students! How about coming to the BAW meeting on Tuesday evening to see how you can help at our next big event?
Schedule This Week
Monday – Odd Block schedule. We’ll begin our rehearsal at 7:00a to unload the trailer and watch some competition video before going outside to continue cleaning drill and music.
Tuesday – Even schedule – OE and Freshman Band will continue to work their music for their concert on Thursday. The Marching Band will have our normal evening rehearsal starting at 7p. In addition, since the band earned over $15,000 at the MEGA Car Wash, the drum majors will color Dr. Thomas’ hair at 5:30p. After that, we will bring out equipment so we can continue to clean and improve our show. When darkness falls, we will move inside and listen to a few judges’ commentaries to continue to understand how we can improve our show. There will be a BAW meeting at 7:00p in the ORCHESTRA room.
Wednesday – Odd Schedule. – Normal Day.
Thursday – Even Schedule – Final rehearsal preparation for the evening’s concert. OE and Concert Band concert beginning at 7:00p in the auditorium. The concert will last about an hour.
Friday – No school for students. Enjoy your day off!
Looking ahead…
Tuesday, Oct. 14 – Last Marching Band Night rehearsal for the year!
Friday, Oct. 17 – No School – Parent/Teacher Conferences.
Saturday, Oct. 18 – Festival of Champions Marching Competition. See the schedule for performance times. I have not yet worked up our detailed movement schedule.
* We need a trailer to haul a Gator to Warrensburg to help us move equipment to and from our performance locations. There are many hills that make it incredibly difficult for the students when they must struggle moving the equipment without this help. The school can supply the gator, but we need a 6ft. wide trailer (by 12 feel long?) to haul it from West to UCM. Please reach out to Dr. Thomas if you have one we can borrow. We have a vehicle to pull it with; we just need a trailer.
Have a wonderful week!
