Hello everyone. I hope you were able to enjoy a little extra sleep today and stay warm while doing it! Here is a look at what is to come in the next couple of weeks.
CONGRATULATIONS to Colton Gist and Nick Heffner for being selected to the KMEA All-State Band and Orchestra! Abraham Romo Perez was selected as an alternate for the incredibly competitive All-State Jazz Band – maybe someone won’t be able to make it at the last minute. 😉
We had been talking about Drum Major auditions tomorrow, but there enrollment assemblies are scheduled for current sophomores and juniors so we will need to push off our DM interviews until next week.
With enrollment coming up – we hope you are planning to return next year for even more band fun! Current students should enroll for Marching Band first semester and then Symphonic Band for second semester or Wind Ensembledepending upon your placement currently. If you are currently in OE, we’d love to have you back in that capacity again next year as well.
Additional classes for consideration – We are also planning to bring back:
Music Theory – for any junior or senior planning to become a music major or minor in college, or anyone wanting to know more about how chords work (Jazz folks :-)). Full year
Jazz Lab Ensemble – the entry level jazz band will return next school year. This class is for anyone wanting to learn more about jazz styles, improvisation and pop/jazz rhythms. We need a full rhythm section, so we’ll be looking for piano, bass, drum set, and a guitar player also! Full year
Music Technology – this class focuses on how to make music with computers. We will also add a DJ’ing component to this for the first time. Come join the fun! Full year
This coming Friday is a home basketball game with the Black Band. It is also a recruitment night for the 6th grade honor band. Come encourage the sixth graders and help them have a great time with the “big kids!” Call time will be 6:00p.
Next week we have a Band~Aides meeting (at 7p) and a basketball game (Gold Band, 5:30p) on Tuesday night.
**Pancake Breakfast Concert **– coming up on Saturday, February 21 from 9a-noon. Tickets will go on sale soon. Be on the look-out. We need everyone to sell their ten tickets to help us pay for next year’s marching band show music, drill, choreography, and transportation. We need everyone’s help. Lettering points will be awarded for students who help set-up, strike, and serve throughout the evening. Parents, we need your help as well to pull of any successful fundraiser. Be looking at your calendars and see how you might be able to assist and help make this event incredible!
Until next time… stay warm and ‘Sko Vikes!
