Congratulations to the Marching Band for their achievement at the Central States Marching Festival on Saturday. They earned a Superior rating for their performance! BRAVO! The Color Guard/Dance Team earned a Superior rating as well!
A big shout out to all the parents who helped with Meals, Chaperoning on the busses, Roadies helping with equipment, Uniforms, Photographers, and all of those who just drove to Manhattan to support and cheer on the band. We’ll do it all again on Saturday, October 28 in Warrensburg. More details to come.
Schedule for this week
Monday – 7:00a.m. like normal. We’ll unload the trailer, watch the video again, and then begin deep cleaning the show in preparation for Warrensburg.
Tuesday – Normal Tuesday night rehearsal at 6:00p. Due to the sun going down earlier, we’ll finish about 7:30 with the hornline. Drumline will continue on for another hour as they are prepping for the stand-alone performance at the Warrensburg show. This will be our Last Tuesday night rehearsal of the season.
Wednesday – normal 7:00a rehearsal. Parent Teacher Conferences in the evening. Come see Mr. Hupe or I if you’d like.
Thursday – PEP BAND NEEDED. Overland Park elementary school has asked for a pep band to play for a special assembly. I’ll have a signup list in the front of the band room tomorrow. We need to arrive at about 8:00a. We’ll play the students into the assembly using our Pep Band Notebooks (and music stands). Drumline, it would be nice to play a cadence also. We’ll be done by 8:40 and can head back to West. We need you to car-pool.
Concert by the Freshman Concert Band, Jazz Lab Ensemble and Overland Express – Call time will be 6:30 for the students. The concert will begin at 7:00p in the auditorium and will last about an hour.
Friday No- School – Parent Teacher Conferences
Band Call time will be 5:00p.m. for the game. We’ll load and dress into uniform for pregame. There will be NO rehearsal at the stadium, nor meal served. Eat prior to arrival at the band room. After Senior introductions at halftime, we’ll change into street clothes and deck out for the Glow Show.
Senior Night Details – Senior Parents and students, we will introduce you at halftime of the game. Senior cheer and football students and parents will be introduced prior to the game. The students will walk in uniform, therefore, parents, you are encouraged to dress nicely for the pictures that will be taken. Parents, you will join your senior in the curve of the track by the concession stand with about 5 minutes left on the clock prior to halftime. You will line up in alpha order by the student’s last name. Photos will be taken at the 50 yard line by Dan Novovesky.
Glow Show Details – Every student purchases their own glow sticks. If you choose to use LED lights, the only rule is that they cannot flash as that detracts from the rest of the band members. You also cannot have any lights aimed directly at the audience. Sometimes students pool their money to purchase big lots of glow sticks on Amazon – but do it quickly so you get them in time! It works best to pre-tape to (using clear shipping tape) to plain black T-shirts, jeans or sweats. Just make sure you are wearing a belt to keep your pants up (ask Thomas or Hupe for the story )! Trying to tape on glow sticks during the 3/4th quarter can be stressful since we have to be ready as soon as the game ends. Taping the night before or during your day off on Friday works best.
